Convert Word (DOCX) to PDF
Turn Word documents into PDFs without uploading anything. Squish handles text, headings and lists on your device. It is basic formatting, so exotic fonts, complex tables and embedded images may shift, since true fidelity needs a server we deliberately do not run.

Why convert Word to PDF
A .docx file looks different on every machine that opens it. Fonts get substituted, page breaks move, and someone with an older version of Word or a different word processor may see a mess. A PDF looks the same everywhere, cannot be accidentally edited, and is what employers, universities, courts and most upload forms ask for. Converting is the last step before sending a CV, a cover letter, an essay, a proposal or a notice.
How this converter works, and its honest limits
Most online Word-to-PDF services upload your document to a server running a copy of Word or LibreOffice, render it there, and send back a PDF. That produces an exact result but means your document, which is often a CV with your address and phone number, or a contract, sits on somebody else's server. This tool takes a different approach: it reads the .docx on your device, interprets the content, and lays it out into a PDF in the browser.
That approach handles the things most documents are made of: paragraphs, headings, bold and italic text, bullet and numbered lists, and basic spacing. It is a good fit for letters, essays, simple CVs, notes and plain reports. It is not a full Word rendering engine, so the following may shift or simplify:
- Complex tables, especially with merged cells or coloured backgrounds.
- Embedded images, text boxes and floating shapes.
- Multi-column layouts, headers and footers, page numbers.
- Unusual fonts, which are replaced with a standard font.
- Tracked changes and comments, which are not rendered.
When to use it and when to use Word itself
| Document | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Cover letter, essay, simple CV, notice | Convert here; privacy is the priority and the layout is simple |
| Report with a few images and simple tables | Convert here and check the result; usually fine |
| Designed CV with columns and icons | Use Word's own Save as PDF for exact fidelity |
| Document with tracked changes to preserve | Accept changes in Word first, then convert anywhere |
If you have Word, Pages, Google Docs or LibreOffice available, their own export produces an exact PDF, and that is the right choice for anything design-heavy. This tool is for the many cases where you do not have the software to hand, are on a phone or a locked-down machine, and want a PDF without uploading the document to a stranger's server.
After conversion
Open the PDF and check it before sending. If it needs to be smaller, note that Word-derived PDFs are already small and rarely need compressing. If you need to combine it with other documents, the merge tool will join them.
Frequently asked questions
How faithful is the conversion?
It handles text, headings and lists well. Complex layouts, exotic fonts and embedded images may shift, because we deliberately run no server.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser and your document never leaves your device.
Can I convert several documents?
Yes. Drop a batch and each .docx becomes its own PDF.
Your files never leave your device
Every tool on Squishly Tools is 100% free and runs entirely inside your browser. Your images and documents are processed on your own computer and are never uploaded to a server. There are no accounts, no watermarks and no catch.
